21 h 07 the kids are asleep

A dad codes at his desk at night, under a lamp. Behind the half-open door, his two kids are asleep. His phone lies there, switched off.

9:07 pm · the kids are asleep

Games made in the evening, instead of scrolling.

By day, I solve problems at a start-up. In the evening, when my two kids are asleep, I don't open TikTok: I build worlds you can dive into a little, a lot, passionately. Six games came out of those evenings. Apple is blocking some of them. You can play them tonight.

The story

A lit window on a sleeping street

In the evening, there is a precise moment when the house goes quiet. The last glass of water has been served, the night-light is on, the door stays ajar. That is when most people reach for their phone.

I started with a gamified to-do list for the household, and a screenless phone for the kids. Then the Ulduar itch took over: building worlds. One boss per evening, sometimes just a button. And after a few months, that makes a studio.

Apple & me

“Spam.” Really?

Apple rejected Rembobine twice, then Wipe!, under guideline 4.3, the one about apps that are “too similar”. None of their replies says what they supposedly resemble. I’m appealing. Meanwhile, I won’t let a committee decide whether you get to play.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who makes these games?

One person: a dad of two who works at a start-up by day and builds games in the evening, once the kids are in bed. A big World of Warcraft fan. No publisher, no investors, no marketing team.

Why aren’t some games on the App Store?

Apple rejected Rembobine and Wipe! under guideline 4.3, known as “spam”, without ever naming the app they supposedly resemble. The appeals are ongoing. Meanwhile, the games remain playable elsewhere.

How can I play without the App Store?

5 of the 6 games play right in your browser, on phone or computer. The iPhone versions install through TestFlight, Apple’s free app for test builds.

What is TestFlight?

A free Apple app used to install games before their release. Install TestFlight from the App Store, open the game’s link, and you’re done. The game updates itself.
