Wipe !

“Can’t see the wall”

One comment while playing on the iPhone, four causes, four fixes. Everyday life in a 3D dungeon.

The Observatory is the fourth dungeon in Wipe!. While testing it on my iPhone, a very simple comment: “can’t see the wall”. In the Stained Glass Gallery, the Cloister and the Narthex, walls were disappearing into the dark.

There were four causes, and it took all four fixes:

  1. Holes at the foot of the walls. The big cathedral walls have a door and two openings at the bottom, which looked out onto the night. A second wall piece behind them now fills them in.
  2. Surroundings that were too dark. The ground beyond the low walls was taking the night from the wrong room. The corner between the Gallery and the Cloister isn’t black anymore.
  3. A completely flat foreground. The walls between the camera and the group were a flat patch of blue. They’ve got their relief and their stone back.
  4. Walls that faded out too soon. A big wall vanished as soon as the group passed in front of it on screen. Now it only fades if it’s really hiding a hero or a monster.

To check, a full tour of the dungeon’s 31 rooms, with before and after screenshots, in iPhone 16 Pro format. No more black walls on the ground floor, and the game doesn’t run any slower.

None of this shows in an App Store screenshot. But it’s what makes you feel you’re in a place, and not on a set.
