Four bosses for the Observatory
The fourth dungeon in Wipe! has four bosses, and each one has its own rule. Patches of light, planets on rails, a greenhouse that swallows you, a telescope that burns brambles.
The Overrun Observatory is the fourth dungeon in Wipe!. An astronomy tower of brass and glass, taken over by plants that grow in the ashes. On 24 October, its four bosses became playable.
The Glassmaker. Three patches of light, emerald, gold and azure, glide along the nave. Stepping into one gives you its colour. The Glassmaker hides behind three panes of glass, and each one only breaks from the patch of its own colour. So the group has to share out the colours.
The Great Orrery. Three planets roll along three rings, each at its own speed. You have to predict when they’ll pass, even when they change direction. And if you lure the boss into a planet’s path, it smashes into him.
Ombelle, the Sporewife. She drags the two heroes who are furthest away down under the greenhouse, into the Loam, where a root feeds her. While the ones up top hold her, the ones down below have to cut the root.
Sylvaran, the Ash Gardener. He sows a seed every 8 seconds, and it grows into a wall of brambles. One hero can take the Great Telescope and sweep a moonbeam around that burns the seeds. But while they’re aiming, they’re not hitting anything.
Every boss also went through the test bench: the AI companions beat it 10 times out of 10 on a +2 key, without a single death.
With no credits left to generate their models, the brass machines (the sentry, the Great Orrery and its planets, the Great Telescope) were built in Blender, with code.
