The living room becomes the screen
In Detention +4, two bosses change the room itself. The Snake swallows the screen and the floor turns into a 3310. As for the Zapper, it channel-hops the living room.
On 13 October, Detention +4, Parents Called In, became playable. Two bosses get a final phase there that transforms the whole room.
The 33-10 Snake: “Next Level”. Below 30% health, it swallows the screen: LEVEL 2. The living room wall flies to pieces and the floor becomes the screen of a Nokia 3310, pale green, in squares, edged with the bricks from the real Snake, with the battery blinking when it gets angry.
Golden apples drop wherever its head can win the race. If it eats them, it grows and speeds up, and the room grows with it. You can steal them by standing on them. In the middle of each edge, the keys 2, 4, 6, 8 force it to turn: you send it into the wall, BOOM, it’s stunned and loses a third of its segments. At 46 segments, GAME OVER.
The Zapper: “Channel Surfing”. Below 35% health, it points the remote at the living room. Full-screen static, and the room becomes whatever show is on:
- the Game Show, with a giant wheel on the floor: only the golden space doesn’t hit you;
- the Weather, with a tornado that sucks you in, and hail;
- the Cartoon, where painted holes become real holes, and Beep Beep dashes across the room.
And Parental control: a 4-digit code and a keypad on the floor. Typing it in without a mistake locks the Zapper out for a few seconds.
On the bench, 300 games each with an expert bot: the Snake +4 is beaten 44% of the time, the Zapper 42%. One game in eight is won all the way through. Harder than the Tamagoyle +3, and that’s on purpose.
